Training is used by human resources as a tool for the
development of individuals skills and knowledge which could be related to their
personal interest or work. There are different types of training that can be
categories in two method: on the job training or off the job training.
On the job training method is basically training
provided by the organisation and taken within the workplace. The top three
training type are apprehensive training, programmed instruction and job
rotation training.
· Apprehensive Training — Classroom based teaching and
practical activities.
· Programmed Instruction — Showing demo, step by step
information and feedback.
· Job Rotation — Involving people in all department and
making them work in other department.
Individual’s learn various skills related to the job
and organization, as they interact with other experienced employees. This
method has a very practical approach. This gives individual an immediate
opportunity to advance their knowledge of the field or industry as they will be
consistently be monitored and evaluated. The training will also be more
tailored to their individual’s learning capabilities. However, it does pose
challenges such as its time consuming, training can hinder work productivity
because it is happening simultaneously.
Off the job training method are training that
individuals participate in that outside the organisation. The most used form of
training are classroom lectures, programmed instruction and simulation
training.
· Classroom lectures — Explaining concepts and
principles with face to face interaction.
· Programmed Instruction — Gives a demonstration and
allow them to carry out the task without further assistance.
· Simulation Training — Very much like a role play
activity. Imaginary situation is created and need to act on it.
The training method has a very theoretical approach;
learning is done by obtaining knowledge from academician and experts from
different institutions. Individual usually participate in this kind of training
in their own time and interest. However, it can usually be expensive. It
involves different individuals from different backgrounds, skills and
experience which can allow you to grow your social network.
Training are needed for different
reasons. For example, off the job training method purpose is to enhance
individual’s knowledge on latest changes in the industry or technology.
Whereas, on the job training is provided to ensure individual’s stay competent
for the position and be competitive for promotion. Thus, different type of
training is important for individual’s development; it have become mandatory in
each step of individual’s growth.
